Rats & Mice

Rats and mice are omnivorous rodents, which eat a range of food including seeds, plant material, insects and even meat. Protein, fats, carbohydrates and fibre all play important roles in their nutrition and must be balanced in the diet. This is best achieved by feeding good quality rat or mouse pellets. Captive adult rodents are prone to obesity, so the quantity of food should be restricted, particularly high fat items like sunflower seeds.
Young rats and mice are fed a high fat, high protein milk to sustain their rapid growth and development. We recommend Wombaroo Dog Milk Replacer for hand rearing orphaned rats & mice, as this product is similar to the nutritional composition of rodent milk. See under resources for information on hand rearing rats and mice. Our other products for rats & mice include hand rearing accessories, healthy treats and dietary supplements.

    Directions for Marsupials

The Good Oil for Animals is indicated for juvenile marsupials for:

    • Boosting the energy content in the milk of particularly fast-growing species such as bandicoots and small carnivorous marsupials.
    • Animals with essential fatty acid deficiency to help promote a healthy skin, coat and cell membranes.
    • Malnourished late lactation marsupials to help increase weight gain prior to weaning.

    Dosage for Juvenile Marsupials

Use at the rate of 5mL added per 100mL of milk formula and mix thoroughly. Introduce gradually to avoid digestive upset. Do not over-supplement, as this will dilute the concentration of other nutrients in the milk and may lead to nutritional imbalance.

Note that all Wombaroo Milk Replacers already contain sufficient fatty acid content for their target species. Supplementation with The Good Oil for Animals is only recommended in the specific cases outlined above.
